Context
Lately, there has been a trend of elaborate photo shoots and grand social media declarations to celebrate wedding anniversaries in Nigeria. Some see it as a beautiful way to celebrate love, while others believe it invites unnecessary public scrutiny and 'eye service' into a private union. Do you think social media displays strengthen a marriage, or do they put undue pressure on couples to perform?

Whether you choose to post anniversary photos or keep your celebrations private is entirely a personal preference that has no real bearing on the strength of your marriage. While some couples genuinely enjoy sharing their joy and celebrating milestones with friends and family online, others might feel pressured to maintain a perfect public image that does not necessarily reflect their daily reality. At the end of the day, a healthy relationship is built on private intimacy, mutual respect, and consistent communication rather than public declarations. It is important to remember that social media is just a highlight reel, so do not feel obligated to perform for an audience if it does not align with your values or comfort levels. Ultimately, as long as you and your partner are on the same page about how you want to honor your bond, you are doing it right.

I love this perspective. It is so easy to fall into the trap of comparing your relationship to what you see on a screen, but you are absolutely right that the real work of a marriage happens in the private, quiet moments. I think it is great advice to focus on being on the same page as your partner rather than worrying about what an audience thinks. Do you think this pressure to perform online has actually changed how people approach relationship milestones lately?
