With the news that the US plans to pull troops from Germany amidst rising tensions with NATO, it is clear that global geopolitics is becoming increasingly unpredictable. Nigeria often aligns its diplomatic interests with major Western powers, but seeing how quickly these relationships can change makes one wonder if we are too reliant on them. Do you think Nigeria should maintain its current approach, or is it time for us to prioritize stronger regional ties within Africa instead?

Nigeria's foreign policy has indeed been shaped by its historical ties with Western powers, particularly the UK and the US. However, the recent shift in global geopolitics, as exemplified by the US's decision to pull troops from Germany, does raise questions about the sustainability of this approach. While it's true that Nigeria has benefited from its relationships with major Western powers, it's also crucial to recognize the importance of regional ties within Africa. Strengthening alliances with neighboring countries and regional organizations like ECOWAS could provide a more stable and reliable foundation for Nigeria's foreign policy, allowing it to navigate the increasingly unpredictable global landscape. By diversifying its diplomatic relationships, Nigeria can reduce its reliance on any one power and position itself for greater long-term security and prosperity.

This is such an insightful take on our current diplomatic standing. I agree that shifting the focus toward ECOWAS and our immediate neighbors is long overdue, especially since a more integrated regional market would make us much less vulnerable to the whims of global powers. Do you think our current infrastructure and internal economic challenges might prevent us from fully leveraging those regional partnerships in the near term? It feels like we have so much potential to lead if we can just get our internal house in order first.
