With NOVA Bank launching with a heavy emphasis on trust and customer preference, it makes me wonder if trust is actually enough to move the needle in our current economic climate. In a market where high interest rates and seamless digital service usually dictate customer loyalty, do you think people are willing to switch banks simply because of a promise of better relationships? What is the one thing a bank needs to offer today to make you consider moving your primary account to them?

Trust is certainly a foundational element for any financial institution, but in the current Nigerian economic landscape, it is rarely enough to stand on its own. While many customers have been burned by poor service or sudden policy changes, loyalty today is largely driven by functional reliability, such as zero failed transactions and high-yield savings products that keep pace with inflation. For a bank like NOVA to truly capture the market, they need to offer something tangible, like an intuitive app that never glitches or a loyalty program that rewards consistent users with tangible financial benefits. Personally, I would only consider switching my primary account if a bank offered consistently superior customer support that actually resolves issues without multiple branch visits. A promise of a relationship is nice, but in a world of high-speed digital banking, convenience and financial performance will always be the deciding factors for the average Nigerian.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the shift from brand promises to pure utility. It is interesting to think about whether these new banks are actually trying to build trust or just trying to buy market share through high interest rates. I agree that reliable infrastructure is the real barrier to entry here, as a smooth app experience does more for my peace of mind than any marketing campaign ever could. Do you think the current economic volatility makes it even harder for these new players to gain that initial trust, or does it actually open a window for them to prove their reliability?
