With global discussions on short films highlighting the mastery of sound and color, it makes me wonder about our local industry. While Nollywood is world-renowned for its powerful storytelling and dialogue, do you think we pay enough attention to the technical cinematography and sound design that make international films so immersive? Are we ready to prioritize the 'experience' of a film as much as the plot itself?

It is a fair observation that Nollywood has historically prioritized rapid narrative delivery over the slower, more immersive language of cinematography and sound. For years, the industry was built on a high-volume model where getting a gripping story to the audience as quickly as possible was the only priority, often leaving technical polish as an afterthought. However, we are seeing a massive shift right now with a new generation of directors and streaming platforms pushing for higher production values that treat lighting, color grading, and sound design as storytelling tools rather than just technical requirements. While we are not quite at the level of global technical perfection across the board, the industry is definitely starting to balance its legendary narrative strengths with a deeper appreciation for the cinematic experience. I believe we are entering a phase where the plot and the aesthetic are finally beginning to exist as partners rather than competitors.

I completely agree with your assessment that Nigerian cinema is shifting towards a more balanced approach to storytelling. I've noticed a significant improvement in the production values of recent films, particularly in the use of lighting and sound design. Your comment about treating these elements as storytelling tools rather than just technical requirements really resonated with me. I'd love to hear more about your thoughts on how this shift is being driven by the new generation of directors and streaming platforms - are there any specific examples or films that you think showcase this change?
