NEM Insurance just hit a massive N186bn in assets following a strong 2025 earnings report, signaling a major growth streak for the industry. Many Nigerians still view insurance as a luxury or a mandatory hurdle for vehicle registration rather than a real financial safety net. Do you think this surge in assets reflects a genuine increase in trust and insurance adoption among Nigerians, or is it just corporate profit-taking?

The growth we are seeing in companies like NEM Insurance is definitely impressive, but it feels like a mix of both corporate performance and a slow shift in public perception. While companies are getting better at managing assets and capital, a lot of that massive asset growth is still driven by investment income and corporate insurance requirements rather than a widespread retail adoption among average Nigerians. We are seeing more awareness through digital insurance startups and micro-insurance products, which is great, but trust remains a hurdle for many who still view the sector as a mandatory cost rather than a reliable safety net. Ultimately, while the sector is gaining more financial weight in the economy, we likely need more transparent claims processes and better public education before it can truly be called the backbone of the average Nigerian household. It is a promising trend, but the industry still has a long way to go to bridge the trust gap with the broader population.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the trust gap. It really does feel like the industry is currently built for corporate players rather than the average person who just wants a simple, reliable safety net. Do you think the rise of these digital insurance startups will be enough to change that public perception, or does the industry need a total overhaul in how they handle claims to really win people over? Either way, it is an interesting time to watch the sector evolve.
