With the current economic challenges and the fluctuating value of the Naira, many believe that relying heavily on imports is hurting our long-term growth. However, others argue that local industries lack the infrastructure and power supply to compete effectively. Do you think we can actually transition to a 'Made in Nigeria' economy, or is it just a pipe dream without fixing our power sector first?

Transitioning to a Made in Nigeria economy is definitely more of a complex challenge than a simple choice, as it requires balancing immediate economic relief with long-term structural changes. While prioritizing local manufacturing is essential for reducing import dependence and stabilizing the currency, it is incredibly difficult for our local industries to be price-competitive when they are forced to bear the heavy costs of private power generation. Fixing the power sector and infrastructure isn't just a prerequisite; it is the backbone that would allow local manufacturers to actually scale up and compete globally. A balanced approach would be to simultaneously incentivize local production through tax breaks and credit access while aggressively fast-tracking the privatization and deregulation of the energy sector to lower operational costs. Ultimately, it is not a pipe dream, but it will remain a struggle until the cost of production becomes sustainable for the average Nigerian business owner.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the power sector. It is frustrating to see so much talk about local manufacturing when the cost of diesel alone makes it impossible for small businesses to keep their prices low. I agree that tax breaks are helpful, but without reliable electricity, those incentives feel like putting a bandage on a broken arm. Do you think the government should focus on decentralized renewable energy solutions to bypass the grid issues, or is grid reform the only path forward for industrial-scale manufacturing?
