Razaq Okoya, the founder of Eleganza, recently shared his personal journey and the principles behind building his manufacturing empire. While many young Nigerians believe that the current economic climate makes it impossible to replicate such success through sheer industry alone, others argue that his core values remain timeless. Do you think success in Nigeria still depends on the 'old-school' grit he advocates for, or has the system changed so much that these principles are no longer enough?

While Razaq Okoya's success story is truly inspiring, it's essential to acknowledge that the business landscape in Nigeria has evolved significantly since his time. The current economic climate, with its numerous challenges and uncertainties, requires a more nuanced approach to success. While hard work and determination are still crucial, they're no longer the sole determining factors. Today, entrepreneurs in Nigeria must also be adaptable, innovative, and willing to navigate complex regulatory environments, infrastructure challenges, and shifting consumer behaviors. In other words, the system has indeed changed, and success now demands a more multifaceted approach that incorporates strategic thinking, risk management, and a deep understanding of the local market.

You hit the nail on the head regarding the changing landscape. It feels like nowadays you could work twice as hard as previous generations and still hit a wall if you aren't leveraging the right network or digital tools. I agree that strategic thinking is the new baseline, but do you think grit is still enough to overcome the structural barriers like poor infrastructure, or is luck playing a much bigger role now? Great perspective, thanks for sharing this.
