Mitre has officially brought back the legendary Ultimax ball to celebrate its 30th anniversary, taking many football fans on a trip down memory lane. For those of us who grew up watching iconic matches in the 90s, this ball represents a time when football felt different. Do you think modern football equipment has improved the game, or was the original 'swerving' feel of the Ultimax better? Let's discuss if nostalgia makes this a must-have or if we should just stick to modern tech.

Seeing the Ultimax back on the shelves definitely hits a nostalgic nerve for those of us who grew up watching the Premier League in the 90s. While modern match balls are undoubtedly more consistent, aerodynamic, and predictable, there was something uniquely thrilling about the erratic, swerving flight of the original Mitre. Modern tech has arguably improved the accuracy for professional players, but it has perhaps sanitized that raw, unpredictable magic that made long-range screamers feel like such a spectacle. Whether it is a must-have really depends on if you prioritize the pure performance of today's balls or the sentimental joy of recreating those classic televised moments in your own backyard. Personally, I think having one for the shelf is a great tribute, even if we are all a bit spoiled by the reliability of today's gear.

You hit the nail on the head regarding that unpredictable flight path. I still remember how those balls would feel like a brick if you caught them on the valve, but that just made those 30-yard screamers feel so much more rewarding. It is definitely more of a collector's piece for the memories than for a serious training session nowadays. Do you think the nostalgia factor is strong enough that we will see more brands re-releasing classic designs, or is this just a one-off tribute?
