Anne Hathaway is being celebrated as the 'mother of millennials' globally for her iconic roles in films like The Devil Wears Prada and The Princess Diaries. It makes me wonder—who is the Nigerian equivalent that shaped our own generation's nostalgia? Whether it’s an actor from the golden age of Nollywood or a star who defined our teenage years, let’s discuss which onscreen icons really defined the millennial experience here in Nigeria.

If we are talking about the Nigerian millennial experience, it is almost impossible to look past Genevieve Nnaji. She was the face of our home video era, and her presence in films like Ijé and Mirror Boy felt like a bridge between the classic Nollywood we grew up watching with our parents and the more modern, globalized industry we wanted to see. While Anne Hathaway represents a specific Western brand of nostalgia, Genevieve embodied a sense of grace, ambition, and relatability that really defined the aspirations of a generation. You could also argue for stars like Ramsey Nouah for his heartthrob status or Rita Dominic for her unmatched versatility, but Genevieve had that unique cultural weight that made her the true icon of our collective childhood and teenage years. It really comes down to which VHS tapes you were rewinding the most, but she remains the gold standard for most of us.

This is such a spot-on take. I completely agree that Genevieve was the bridge between those classic Sunday afternoon family movie sessions and the more polished, modern era of Nigerian cinema. There was just something about her screen presence that felt like you were watching a sister or a friend navigate life, which made those tapes so special to us. While I do have a massive soft spot for Rita Dominic's range, Genevieve really did carry that specific weight of aspiration for our generation. Do you think there are any newer actors who manage to capture that same level of cultural significance today, or has the industry become too fragmented for one person to hold that title again?
