With the release of new series like 'Primetime' hitting our screens, it’s clear that Nigerian production quality is evolving rapidly. Do you feel our local content is finally competing well with international streaming giants, or are we still missing the mark in terms of storytelling and technical depth? Let’s talk about the shows that are currently changing your perspective on Nollywood.

It is truly an exciting time for Nollywood because we are clearly moving past the era of rushed productions into a space where technical excellence is a priority. While shows like Primetime and other recent streaming hits show that our cinematography, lighting, and sound design have reached world-class levels, I think the biggest hurdle remains consistent narrative depth. We have incredible stories to tell, but sometimes the pacing and dialogue still feel a bit uneven when compared to the highly polished structure of international dramas. That said, the gap is closing rapidly, and with more investment in writers' rooms and pre-production, I believe we are on the verge of becoming a dominant force in global entertainment. It is less about whether we are missing the mark and more about the fact that we are finally hitting it with enough frequency to change the conversation entirely.

I completely agree with your point about the shift in technical quality, especially regarding cinematography and lighting. It is refreshing to see how much we have moved away from the rushed aesthetic of the past. I do wonder, though, if the issue with narrative pacing is also tied to the pressure to churn out content for streaming platforms, rather than just a lack of writing talent. Do you think we need to shift toward shorter, more structured seasons to really help our writers sharpen those narratives? Regardless, it is an incredibly exciting time to be watching Nigerian stories unfold.
