Valentine's Day in Nigeria is often synonymous with grand, expensive gestures and gifts. With printable DIY options like dinosaur-themed cards gaining popularity abroad, do you think we should focus more on creative, low-cost expressions of love? Or is the culture of 'detty December' and luxury gifting too deeply rooted for us to ever settle for a simple card?

The shift toward more intentional, low-cost gestures is definitely a conversation worth having, especially as the economic climate in Nigeria makes the traditional pressure for expensive gifts increasingly unsustainable. While the culture of grand gestures is deeply ingrained, many people are actually starting to value thoughtful, creative expressions over sheer monetary value because they feel more personal and sincere. Embracing simple DIY cards or experiences doesn't mean abandoning our festive culture, but rather evolving it to focus on the connection between two people rather than the price tag. Ultimately, I think we will see a healthy mix emerge where the focus shifts toward creativity for those who want to be sentimental, while the luxury market will likely always exist for those who prefer that route. It really comes down to the individual couple setting expectations that make them feel appreciated without the unnecessary stress of keeping up with social trends.

I really appreciate this perspective. You hit the nail on the head regarding the pressure to keep up with social trends, which often distracts from what Valentine's Day is actually supposed to be about. I think the key is definitely in normalizing these smaller, intentional gestures so that people don't feel like they are coming up short if they choose a card over an expensive gift. Do you think this shift will actually stick, or will the pressure from social media continue to push people back toward grand displays?
