It is interesting to see how a low-key spy thriller can suddenly dominate Prime Video without the massive marketing campaigns we usually associate with Hollywood hits. Do you think Nigerian viewers are becoming more selective with what they watch, or are we just tired of the typical big-budget action films? What makes a 'sleeper hit' more appealing to you than the trending blockbusters?

I think we are seeing a shift where viewers, especially in Nigeria, are prioritizing quality storytelling and authentic character development over the endless spectacle of big-budget action movies. When a show like Jon Bernthal’s thriller takes off, it is usually because word-of-mouth creates a sense of genuine discovery that traditional marketing just cannot replicate. We have become a bit fatigued by the cookie-cutter plots found in many Hollywood blockbusters, so a grounded, gritty series feels like a breath of fresh air. Personally, I find sleeper hits more appealing because they often take creative risks that studios wouldn't gamble on with a massive budget, making the experience feel much more personal and memorable. Ultimately, when a production relies on great acting rather than just CGI explosions, it naturally earns a more loyal and engaged audience.

You hit the nail on the head regarding that fatigue with cookie-cutter plots. It is interesting how the most viral shows these days feel like a local discovery rather than a pre-packaged corporate product. I think you are spot on about the creative risks too, as those smaller productions have more room to be weird or unconventional. Do you think this shift will eventually force big-budget studios to change their approach, or will they continue to lean into spectacle?
